Read about the users experience with Wavecare products
01.11.2023 - We are proud to announce that Wavecare has entered into another collaboration agreement with the Region of Southern Denmark, Sygehus Sønderjylland in Aabenraa, for the establishment of sensory birthing rooms.
As part of the ambitious Birth Plan of the Southern Region of Denmark, a grant of 2.506 million DKK has been allocated for the establishment of six sensory birthing rooms, tailored to create a comfortable atmosphere for expectant parents and their families at Sygehus Sønderjylland, Aabenraa. Southern Denmark Health Innovation was tasked with developing a design guide for the region's sensory birthing rooms based on experiences from existing solutions and user involvement from staff, expectant mothers, and partners. By exploring the process, it was possible to get a clear picture of what the room should include. Some of the elements that could support a positive experience involved structuring/were dividing the room into zones, with its design guiding its intended use. Furthermore, aspects such as lighting, sound, and other factors could contribute to creating an ambiance suitable for different phases of the birthing process. The design guide from Southern Denmark Health Innovation emphasizes the importance of design and aesthetics of a sensory birthing room. The interior should promote sensory stimulation, and the birthing individual and their partner should have the opportunity to influence the room's design themselves, thereby creating a personal and secure environment making use of natural materials and references to nature. Wavecare has happily complied with the recommendations outlined in the design guide from Southern Denmark Health Innovation, with a particular focus on supporting the birthing process through carefully targeted sensory stimuli, and a user interface designed with simplicity in mind, ensuring both staff and partners can effortlessly operate the system. There is also a focus on creating a warm and homely atmosphere through the use of sustainable materials and mood-enhancing elements. Furthermore, the goal is to to promote a comfortable and relaxing indoor climate while also ensuring ease of of maintenance and cleanliness. In the birthing rooms, the focus is on creating a soothing atmosphere, where mood-enhancing lighting plays a crucial role. Lighting can be adjusted by both the staff and the birthin individual and their partner, allowing them to adapt and create the desired ambiance in the room. It is essential that the lighting is comforting and can be adjusted in different strengths and tones. Simultaneously, it is necessary for the staff to always have the option to take control of the lighting in case of acute obstetric situations. The natural ambience is supported by nature motifs on the walls or the targeted Wavecare moods played on wall-mounted screens. To further enhance the calming atmosphere, there is a focus on integrating soothing sounds and nature atmospheres in the room, such as the sound of nature or music. Primarily, there is a focus on familiar natural sounds, such as the sound of water or birdsong, which can contribute to creating the desired atmosphere. This can also be supplemented with calming mood-enhancing music tailored to the purpose. It is important that the sounds and music are in harmony with the visual stimuli in the room. The birthing individual and their partner also have the option to control, deselect, or play their own selected sounds via the Bluetooth speaker system. The overall vision is to create an environment that promotes security and tranquility during the birthing process. This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on both the patients and the staff at Sygehus Sønderjylland, based on previous experiences with sensory birthing rooms. The work will commence from January 2024. |
28.10.2023 - Wavecare supports with 10,000 DKK for the Break Cancer event in Denmark
October 28th was a day of great significance, dedicated to a collective fight against cancer. Wavecare was proud to contribute to this important movement, and were delighted to sponsor the Forensic Psychiatry Department Slagelse in connection with the Break Cancer event on TV2. The Forensic Psychiatry Department in Slagelse actively participated in the event, with patients and staff completing laps through running, swimming lanes, and e-bike cycling races, all rewarded by sponsors. Peter Dandanell, who lost his best friend to cancer, was the driving force behind this initiative. As a part of the fight, he was one of the initiators behind the Break Cancer event for forensic psychiatry and the security department at the psychiatric hospital in Slagelse. Most physiotherapists were involved in organizing the day and securing sponsors as he could not do this alone. 28.10.2023 - The Forensic Psychiatry Department in Slagelse managed to raise a total of 51,150 Danish kroner
Impressive results were achieved by the 80 patients and staff at the forensic psychiatric and security departments. We take pride in our strong collaboration with the Forensic Psychiatry Department in Slagelse, which is making a fantastic effort to helping their patients ind inner peace and to improve their mental well-being through Wavecare's sensory integration and the use of stimulating aids. It was a pleasure to support their initiative with a 10,000 Danish kroner sponsorship. We thank the entire team for their fantastic efforts and all of you who have shown great support of the event. 18.09.2023 - Visit from Taiwanese Delegation
We are honored to host a delegation from Taiwan that includes esteemed representatives from Kaohsiung Medical University Gangshan Hospital, 林美瑤 (Lin Meiyao) and 葛菁如 (Ker Gimru), along with our dedicated local distributor, Alex Sun. Their visit gave us the opportunity to showcase Wavecare's sensory environments in maternity wards here in Denmark and acquainting the delegation from Taiwan with our specialized approach to sensory stimulation during the childbirth process. We look forward to fostering valuable collaborations and sharing our expertise in maternal healthcare. All four maternity units at Holbæk Sygehus have been converted into sensory maternity units that combine light, sound, and images to create calming environments. The expectant mothers have responded positively to the new maternity units, where audiovisual themes support the different stages of childbirth. These themes consist of light, sound design, and live images displayed on a large dynamic screen hung on a wall, combined with special-coded LED ceiling lighting and speakers. |
18.08.2023 - Visit to the maternity ward at Mälarsjukhuset, Eskilstuna
We had a wonderful visit to the maternity ward at Mälarsjukhuset, Eskilstuna, Region Sörmland. Our focus during this visit was centered on nurturing a safe and caring environment that resonates with the requirements for the birthing woman and her partner. We firmly believe in the profound impact that a calm and secure atmosphere can have on this pivotal moment in a family's life. We are aiming to initiate user feedback at Eskilstuna Hospital, which will provide us with input from new parents and staff, giving us valuable local insights. |
16.08.2023 - Nominated for the best dementia initiative of the year
Furesø Municipality is collaborating with Wavecare to develop new sensory technology for nursing home residents with dementia. The technology has already shown promising results abroad and in Danish maternity wards and psychiatries, where it helps to create a feeling of calmness and security for patients. The purpose of this project is to determine if the technology can also have a positive impact on nursing home residents with dementia. As a crucial part of the project, employees also receive extensive training in the use of sensory stimuli as an integrated part of their professional practice. A notable aspect of this initiative is the deliberate decision to focus on mobile sensory solutions as opposed to establishing traditional "sensory rooms." This allows direct placement of the technology in the residents’ own surroundings, either in their accommodations or in common areas. Additionally, Furesø Municipality has chosen to integrate Wavecare's sensory lighting and themes in a shared lounge. This creates an opportunity to use the technology in collaboration with multiple residents simultaneously. It can, for example, be used to calm residents and create tranquility, or to establish a pleasant and secure space among the residents with dementia. |
30.06.2023 - ISO and CE certification of Wavecare Software 3.0
Wavecare has achieved a significant milestone by attaining ISO and CE certification for its Wavecare software 3.0. These certifications indicate that the software complies with the relevant requirements set forth by ISO and CE standards. Wavecare has received a unique code associated with these certifications. The next step in the process involves the Danish Medicines Agency reviewing the software's classification as a medical device. Obtaining ISO and CE certification entails undergoing a conformity assessment process where Wavecare assesses the software's compliance with the applicable requirements. This process ensures that the software meets the necessary quality, safety, and compliance standards. By attaining these standards, Wavecare aims to establish new benchmarks for ambitious interventions in international healthcare. This certification emphasizes Wavecare's commitment to delivering high-quality and compliant software solutions in the healthcare industry. |
15.06.2023 - Participation in Her Majesty the Queen's banquet
On June 15, 2023, Co-Founder Bjørn Wennerwald attended on behalf of Wavecare, Her Majesty the Queen's banquet to celebrate the Norwegian Royal Couple's official visit to Denmark. Bjørn had the honor of sitting with Crown Princess Mary, with whom he shared a common interest in vulnerable individuals. The recognition from the highest authority validates that the method we have developed and obstetrics has contributed to positive changes and has inspired different ways of thinking by integrating it into clinical processes. In Denmark and worldwide, Wavecare is an example that results can be achieved for society through collaboration between the Danish public healthcare system and private companies in Denmark and on a global scale. Ultimately, it is about creating jobs and exports. Life science has become one of Denmark's most important exports in which Wavecare has already made contributions. At this dinner, Bjørn represented thousands of people who have contributed over the years to what Wavecare is today, including healthcare professionals, patients, politicians, research institutions, developers, and most importantly, his partner in life and work, Eva Wennerwald, who has fought by his side but unfortunately could not be present. An experience that will stand as an everlasting memory thanks to Her Majesty the Queen. |
15.06.2023 - Wavecare participates in a networking meeting organized by DI
Today, we are thrilled to be participating in a networking meeting hosted by the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI), bringing together professionals from the Scandinavian countries and the Danish Life Science sector. The day holds an even more extraordinary event as we have the privilege of attending a dinner hosted by Her Majesty, Queen Margrethe II, in honor of King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway. This special occasion highlights the power of international relationships and the value of fostering connections across industries in the Scandinavian countries. Attending this dinner, graciously hosted by Her Majesty, Queen Margrethe II, we were given a unique opportunity to engage, exchange ideas, and explore potential collaborations. It is through such interactions that we can build bridges and foster mutual growth. We are truly excited about the possibilities that lie ahead as we forge new partnerships and work towards a brighter future. |
25.05.2023 - Local collaboration tests whether light and sound improve the daily life of dementia patients in nursing homes
Furesø Municipality enters a collaboration with Wavecare by developing new sensory technology for nursing home residents with dementia. The technology has already shown promising results in psychiatry and delivery rooms, where it helps creating a sense of calmness and security for patients. The new project aims to demonstrate whether the solution also has a significance for nursing home residents with dementia. "People with dementia can struggle to understand what is happening around them. They often experience restlessness, sleep disturbances, can be outwardly aggressive, and have difficulty grasping time and place. With the sensory project, we hope that the technology can help provide more tranquility for residents, and that the staff will have some additional tools in their toolbox when providing care and support for the residents," says Lars Carstensen (C), chairman of Furesø's political committee for the Elderly and Health. |
16.05.2023 - French-Danish Healthcare Days in Paris
The founders Eva and Bjørn Wennerwald represented Wavecare at the French-Danish Healthcare Days in Paris this week. Both public institutions and private companies participated in roundtable discussions on important topics in both countries, such as staff retention and recruitment, public-private partnerships, and the sensible use of technology with the patient at the center. In just two years, Wavecare ApS has been implemented in 18 psychiatric hospitals in France, and we feel fortunate to have full support from our partner CREE SAS and the Danish Health Alliance. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and preparing for new activities within both maternity care and elderly care. We wish a big thank you to the organizing teams from the Embassy of Denmark in France, Dansk Erhverv Healthcare DENMARK, and the Minister of Internal Affairs and Health in Denmark, Sophie Løhde, for the time spent together at the PariSanté Campus, including our ambassador, Michael Starbæk Christensen, for the invitation to lunch at the residence with a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower. |
02.03.2023 - The new emergency room at Bispebjerg Hospital features an entirely new indoor environment with Wavecare's nature images as wallpaper.
The new emergency department at Bispebjerg Hospital features an entirely new indoor environment with Wavecare's nature images as wallpaper. At Wavecare, we have supported Bispebjerg's vision of feeling anticipation and being welcomed through nature images as wall decorations for the various treatment sections and calming Wavecare TV programs on the patients' TVs. The new environment aims to provide patients with a secure and 'homely' setting during their hospitalization. The new emergency department has been in operation in Bispebjerg since November 2022. The design takes greater account of the vulnerable situation that citizens and patients find themselves in when they require urgent assistance and arrive at the emergency department. There is also a sensory room accompanied by a courtyard in the emergency department, intended for the citizens and patients who are most distressed and are in need of relaxation. The room is furnished with Wavecare’s technology - a combination of subdued lighting, soothing music, and serene natural scenes displayed on a wall from a projector, a large mattress, beanbags, and a punching wall for emotional release. |

28.01.2023 - Wavecare in P4 Uhørt
In P4 Uhørt, on Saturday, January 28th, Chief Midwife Louise Thorup speaks about the sensory delivery rooms at Regionshospitalet Randers: "...as we do now, you are greeted by orange light in the ceiling and quiet piano music playing, and then a large screen with an image of a bonfire and some water, and some pleasant colors that help create a comfortable atmosphere and instill a sense of security and well-being in the birthing woman and her attendants," says Louise Thorup. At Nordsjællands Hospital, there have already been good experiences with sensory delivery rooms. Ellen Løkkegaard, who is a professor of gynecology and obstetrics at Nordsjællands Hospital, states that the number of cesarean sections has decreased: "At our hospital, studies show that there is a lower risk of cesarean section if you give birth in a sensory room compared to a normal delivery room," states Ellen Løkkegaard. Ellen points to the lighting as an important factor in the release of Oxytocin, also known as the love hormone, which is a hormone formed inside the brain and causes the uterus to contract. If the birth does not progress as it should, this hormone is added through a drip. Regionshospitalet Randers takes these positive experiences further into a new research project that measures the effect before and after the implementation of the sensory delivery rooms. |
15.01.2023 - Sandra gave birth in a sensory birthing room
Sandra had a dream birth at a Wavecare Sensory Delivery Room - the concept is now being spread throughout the region. Sandra Steenholdt's birth in March took place at a Wavecare Sensory Delivery Room, something she believes contributed to making it a true dream birth. In the future, all births in this region will have the same opportunity as Region of Southern Denmark is now expanding the concept to all 38 birthing rooms in the region. However, it is entirely up to each woman to decide whether she wants to use the sensory birthing room or not. "It calmed you in a different way. I actually enjoyed it, if you can put it that way. It sounds a bit strange to say, but I actually did." - Sandra Steenholdt, new mother For a year and a half, Sygehus Sønderjylland has been gaining experience with Wavecare's Sensory Birthing Room. Shortly before Christmas, the regional council decided that all 38 birthing rooms in the region will become sensory rooms within the next two years. "There is the option to choose different programs. If you choose the 'calming' one, it helps create a nice, calm atmosphere, where both the light and the music contribute to a pleasant experience." - Jannie Bladt, Midwife, Sygehus Sønderjylland Research shows that the Wavecare sensory room reduces the risk of emergency caesarean sections and provides a comforting experience for the birthing mothers. "I want to do what we can to make their experience as good as possible, and if they find it nice to be here, it's lovely when we can accommodate that." - Jannie Bladt, Midwife, Sygehus Sønderjylland "My thoughts before were that I was terrified. I was so afraid of giving birth. Also, because people say it hurts a lot; That it's almost the worst experience of your life. It was like a dream birth for me. I would love to have such a birthing room again. I really would." - Sandra Steenholdt, new mother Ellen Løkkegaard, a professor of gynecology and obstetrics at Nordsjællands Hospital, explains that the number of caesarean sections has decreased: "At our hospital, studies show that there is a lower risk of caesarean section if one gives birth in a sensory room compared to a regular birthing room," says Ellen Løkkegaard. Wavecare, Soundfocus, B&O, and AAU will over the next 4 years develop, research, and test an entirely new sound technology that has the potential to benefit the healthcare sector and private homes based on individual interaction and big data. We are already underway and planning the initial tests in 2020 in an intensive care unit, which is often challenged by high noise levels and general hospital noise. Wavecare is proud to once again be instrumental in setting high ambitions in the healthcare sector within our field. |
01.09.2019 - Free Wavecare App for psychiatric patients after discharge
Within a short period of time, the psychiatric departments in Denmark that are equipped with Wavecare Sensory Rooms will be able to offer our app with sensory room themes to patients in its entirety. Wavecare will be mindful of its responsibility with this free offer, as the alternative path would be far too lengthy for the patient. In addition to the 60 sensory rooms currently in operation, a test group has been using the app for an extended period, with one individual specifically mentioning that it may have prevented a readmission through daily use. The app can be used on one's phone/tablet and connected to a TV. This offer is currently exclusive to users of Wavecare sensory rooms and therefore completely free for the patient. A guide on how the patient can gain access will be sent, including a completely anonymous barcode that requires no credit card or other personal information. |

The new maternity wards at Nordsjællands Hospital pave the way for childbirth in more homely surroundings and were ceremoniously inaugurated with speeches from hospital director Bente Ourø Rørth, health committee chairman Christoffer Buster Reinhardt, and deputy head midwife Gitte Pia Ulriksen. "We know from our sensory delivery rooms that the environment, including the design, light, and sound, has an impact on the birthing experience. It helps reduce stress and increase security, thus supporting the natural childbirth process in terms of the release of the woman's birthing hormones. With our new in-house maternity clinic, we can now offer even more women the opportunity to give birth in homely and relaxing settings," said deputy head midwife Gitte Pia Ulriksen from the Gynecological Obstetric Department in a press release. |
